Unexpectedly, former president Edgar Lungu has declared his intention to get back into politics. At a memorial event for his late mentor, Michael Sata, the announcement was made. Lungu reaffirmed during the service his dedication to preserving the Patriotic Front (PF) party’s heritage.

Reactions to Lungu’s choice to return to politics have been conflicting. There have been speculations on whether his return is an attempt to get out from under his wife’s current theft charges. Concerns over Lungu’s health and suitability to run for office have also been voiced by others. Running had previously been prohibited for him due to security concerns. Lungu is still committed to overcoming any challenges in his way of becoming a leader, though.

It is unclear how the people of Zambia will.
